III. Letter of Recommendation
Ask one person to send in a letter of recommendation, and list that person’s name and position or occupation below. This person may not be a family member unless he/she is also your employer, coach, etc. He/she should be a person such as a professor, adviser, employer, coach, or religious leader who is familiar with your abilities, achievements, personality, and goals and can express these significant aspects of you effectively. This letter must be sent directly to the AAUW Scholarship regular mail address given on page 1 under DEADLINE.

IV. Financial Information
The Student Aid Report (SAR) and the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) number are required; both of those items will be sent to you after you send in the Free Application for Student Financial Aid to the federal government. The Financial Aid Office at your school can provide more information.
V. Personal Statement (one to two typed double-spaced pages)
The AAUW Local Scholarship Committee will be trying to determine why you are an outstanding candidate for our scholarship. Decide on a theme or organizing principle in your life story that clearly conveys who you are now, and relate it to one or more of the topics below.
Your career goal, including a stated major, with some explanation of why you made this choice and what you hope to do in this field.
Your academic activities, jobs, and/or volunteer work that led to and/or support your career goal.
Your engagement in community, athletic, religious, or other extracurricular activities that broadened or deepened you.
Your life experiences (a death, a marriage, a divorce, care of children, abuse, trips or missions, etc.) that broadened or deepened you, led to your career goal, and/or caused your financial need.
VI. Interview
The top candidates for these scholarships will be personally interviewed.
VII. Checklist of required application materials

The AAUW Local Scholarship Committee looks forward to reading your application, and we hope to present our scholarships to the winners at our May branch meeting. However, your promise to attend this event is not a prerequisite for receiving our scholarship. Good luck!
